PCA Zoom Membership Meeting: March 18
The PCA of Great Chicago has scheduled our membership meeting on Wednesday, March 18, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. Contractor members and Associate members are asked to please mark your calendar and plan to join us for updates on industry happenings and the latest news regarding your Association.

To request a Zoom invite, contact our Executive Director S.J. Peters by email at ; phone the office at 312-563-9526; or call or text S.J. on his cell # at 630-280-9307. A Zoom invite will be sent to you, and you will be prompted to respond to "accept."

Note: The PCA has also scheduled in-person membership meetings in 2021 on Tuesday, May 11 at Maggiano's in Oak Brook and on Tuesday, September 21 at the Erie Cafe in Chicago. Both will be evening functions. Details to come.

If you or any of your staff are unfamiliar with the Zoom online service and would like to schedule a "test," please contact the PCA office prior to March 18, 2021.

Update on CE Classes

IL PHCC is Planning CE Classes to Go Online
Attention PCA of Greater Chicago member contractors:
The Illinois PHCC will soon be offering continuing education for licensed plumbers virtually. With the ongoing pandemic, the IDPH is temporarily allowing classes to be held online. There are specific requirements that must be met in order to conduct classes in that manner and the Illinois PHCC is currently working on compliance. All the Illinois PHCC online classes will also be State approved hours for Certified Plumbing Inspectors.

Once these classes are scheduled and available, the Illinois PHCC will be announcing it on its website at ilphcc.com, the Illinois PHCC Facebook page, and sending out emails.

The PCA of Greater Chicago – which is the sole and exclusive plumbing contractors association in our 17-county area jurisdiction that is the official local chapter of both the Illinois and National PHCC (Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors Association) – will publicize to our members all information that is pertinent to the online classes to be offered by the state chapter for approved CE credit for PCA contractors as soon as it becomes available.

PCA Teaming Up Soon with Porter Pipe for CE Classes
Watch for announcements in upcoming editions of Workflow for CE classes for the plumbing license to be presented by the PCA of Greater Chicago in partnership with our friends at Porter Pipe at the company’s facility in Addison, IL in early April. We’re in the midst of planning 4-hours of dynamic Continuing Education exclusively for PCA affiliated contractors like you. Due to current attendance limitations that are related to the pandemic, the details are now being worked out. As always, the better way is PCA! Stay tuned…more to come.

PCA & Local 130 Drug Policy Modified to Accept Medical Marijuana with Physician's Recommendation Under Certain Circumstances
Recapping a news item we shared with our members earlier this month: In response to occasional situations in which medical marijuana is recommended in writing (for a participant in our drug testing program) by a licensed medical provider, the PCA and Plumbers Local 130 recently agreed to modify the drug policy ("Drug Free Alliance"). A positive result for cannabis that is related to a Screen Safe administered drug test (random/mandatory; pre-hire; or for cause) would not be deemed an instance of being non-compliant if all of the following requirements are met:

a written recommendation from a licensed medical provider to Screen Safe is furnished;
the medical cannabis can be used during non-working hours but not while on call;
the individual receives prior approval by the IDPH to join the Medical Cannabis Program;
the recommendation is approved on an annual basis by Screen Safe;
the participant does not exhibit (is not observed showing) any symptom of impairment.
